Welcome to the sketchbook
This is the first post on the companion site for Andrew Seems Sketchy, a place for things that don’t fit in a video: longer notes on a piece, the sketch archive, a list of materials I use, and eventually prints and originals for sale.
The short version: I’ve drawn on and off since I was a kid, picked it back up seriously a few years ago, and found the Urban Sketchers chapter here in Raleigh. Going to my first meeting was a tipping point. I’ve sketched almost every day since, whether I’m out and about, meeting with a local group of sketchers, at home, on vacation, or traveling for work.
At some point I realized I had a lot of sketches piling up and no real place to put them beyond a shelf of sketchbooks, so here we are: an Instagram account, YouTube channel, and this site to go with it.
A couple things worth knowing going in: This mostly isn’t a tutorial channel. I’m not a formally trained artist, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. What I know, I learned by doing, looking, reading, and watching. I draw a mix of everything: urban scenes, nature, architecture, people, portraits, figure work, travel sketches, and occasionally something from pure imagination, but I’m still very much figuring it out myself. What you’re getting here is closer to a documented learning and growth process than a lesson plan.
I’m keeping it fun, not a serious side hustle - no upload schedule I’m going to feel guilty about missing, no forced content. Just sketching and sketching-adjacent stuff, filmed honestly at whatever pace I feel like releasing videos. This channel has to squeeze into an already full life.
This site is where the parts that don’t fit in a video live: longer notes like this one, the sketch archive (check out the gallery if you haven’t), a list of my materials, and eventually a small shop for prints and originals. I’ll add to it as it makes sense.
Thanks for being here this early. More soon.
